Saturday, September 6, 2008 We escaped the "wrath" of Tropical Storm Hanna, so today we went to a friend's house for a birthday party. It was a nice day to stay inside and play games, avoiding the mucky muck outside from the earlier rainfall and high winds. We left there around 11 pm tonight, went home to let the dogs out and headed back out to meet up with friends at Baron's Pub & Restaurant in downtown Portsmouth. It was our first time out on the town, and I forgot how smoky bars can be. The crowd was mixed, mostly younger though. There was a two-man band, playing cover songs to a lively, and sometimes rowdy audience. I was most impressed that they had fresh brewed, strong-like-I-like it, iced tea. We looked over the menu and they had a few vegetarian options, like potato skins, cheese sticks, veggie pizza, but no vegan options, unless you count the "dinner salad with all the fixins." Steph got one beer, and I ordered iced tea. The waitress didn't charge me for the iced tea, which I assume was because I was considered the DD (designated driver), so our entire bill was $2.75. We left a five to cover the tip. I feel for waitresses in bars; they have to put up with a lot of crap. |
