Steph's parents came into town tonight. We were supposed to meet them for dinner when they got in, but they called at 7:00 pm and said they were still 130 miles away. So Steph and I went to my favorite place, Jason's Deli, to eat. We both had our usuals - I had the salad bar and Steph had a baked potato with cottage cheese. After dinner we both were wanting some coffee. We noticed the coffee machines, but didn't see any mugs. I asked one of the crew members and she got us mugs. When we went up to the coffee station, we noticed boxes of Yogi tea, in three varieties - Lemon Ginger, Green Tea and Chai Black. We decided to forgo the coffee and try the tea. We were impressed to see the offering of organic cane sugar packets along with the regular half and half. Steph chose the Lemon Ginger and I chose the Chai Black. We both loved our choices and enjoyed them more than we would have the coffee.
Steph's parents arrived after 9:30, so we headed over to their hotel, Governor Dinwiddie Hotel, to meet them for a late dinner. We were undecided between Outback at Waterside, La Tolteca at High Street Landing or somewhere in Downtown Portsmouth. I called La Tolteca and they were closed (at 9:45 pm on a Friday night?!?!?), and Outback closed at 11:00 and by the time we got to the hotel at 9:55, we figured we'd miss the ferry that would get us over to the restaurant soon enough to have time to order and eat without being rushed out. So instead we walked across the street from the hotel to Fusion 440, but after reviewing the menu posted on the window, we decided that was way too pricey for the quick meal we were looking for. We walked next door to Longboards Lounge and sat outside on the patio, since it was insanely loud and bar-like inside. Steph and I didn't eat (had iced teas instead), but her mom got a turkey and bacon sandwich with a cranberry ramoulade and her dad got a cheeseburger. The food looked delicious and the prices were very reasonable.
Steph's gonna spend the next few days doing touristy things with them, and I'll meet up with them for a few meals. Stay tuned for reports from Steph...
